2. I act in audacious faith to change the world in my generation.
Joshua 10:12 - "Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, 'O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.'"
Joshua 10:13 - "So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies." Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day."
Joshua 10:14 - "There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel."
Joshua acted in audacious faith when he asked God to make the sun to stand still. He did it not for himself but for the nation of Israel. This was not a selfish request - which is probably why God granted it to him. Joshua was looking to change the world.
What kind of prayers could I pray tonight that would affect the world? I could pray for God to use me in the furthering of His kingdom here on earth. It is a good prayer, but it is not very specific. I need to find a specific prayer like the one Joshua prayed. I need to step outside of my comfort zone to do it. Joshua had a clear vision of what he needed to do. I do not yet have a vision.
John 14:12 - "Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father."
I understand this verse a little better since attending a class about the Holy Spirit. Jesus was telling Philip that anyone who believes in Jesus was going to be able to do greater works than He did while on earth because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It was better for Jesus to go and be with the Father so that the Holy Spirit would be available to us for these great works.
This is the breakdown: We need to believe in Jesus for the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us. After we have believed in Jesus as the one and only son of God, who rose from the death to save us from our sins, then our next step is to invite the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us. After we have the Holy Spirit indwelling in us, then we are able to perform all the gifts of the Spirit because we are one with him.
We are not capable of performing any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit without Him; even if we are saved. It is taken me a long time to even understand this part which is only just a part. I am simplifying it just to get my point across. What Jesus was saying in this verse is something we should strive to do for the rest of our lives.
We need to be using these gifts to further God's kingdom. We need to understand the gifts the Holy Spirit has given us. Otherwise, we can not do as much as we could. I don't know about you, but I want God to be able to use me fully. I don't want to turn away those gifts. I don't understand why anyone would want to turn them away. Those gifts are given to us for God's purpose and our job is to accept them and use them accordingly.
