Do you have great intentions?
Do you overestimate your capabilities?
Do you seem to end up doing the thing you say you are not going to do?
Do you appear confident, but tremble inside?
Do you sometimes make that leap of faith no one else would?
Is fear an underlying factor in everything you do?
Does your fear cause you to deny it?
Peter was the first person to deny Jesus even after claiming he never would.
Peter denies the truth about himself - which is - he is afraid.
Peter does not face his fear - he denies it.
But, when Peter finally faces who he is after denying Jesus three times like Jesus said he would, here is what Peter accomplished:
He was the first person to enter the empty tomb.
He was the first to see Jesus in his resurrected body.
He was the first to speak at Pentecost.
He was rescued by an angel after being thrown in jail by King Herod.
He was the founder of the church in Rome.
And when faced with his death on a cross, he chose to be hung upside down so as to not be confused with Jesus.
That's where humility got Peter.
Facing who he was brought him to who he really wanted to be.
